 Smoke Free Arena PICS

We wanted our arena to be declared smoke free. As a class, we grade nine students have been learning about tobacco products and the risks they cause when they are used. We did a survey asking people questions about their personal use and knowledge. We took around a petition, for the school to sign, including teachers. The results were outstanding. We wrote this letter with the knowledge we gained from the survey and the signatures we received to accomplish a smoke free arena, which was read at the community MADRA meeting and was approved.

A SMOKE-FREE ARENA

The grade 9 class would like to point out some reasons why having a smoke free arena would be a benefit to the health and well being of our community.

In health class we have spent a large amount of time studying harmful effects and risks of second hand smoke. Along with this letter is an article we wrote including facts and information on second hand smoke.

As students and young people active in recreational sports in the community, we want to point out that we spend a lot of time at the arena, as well as kids younger than ourselves. Second hand smoke is harmful to everyone and is something that kids at the arena don't want to deal with on a day to day basis. We would like the arena to be a fun, positive, athletic, and safe experience for everyone who comes to take part.

Sincerely,
The Grade 9 Class
