CALVES By:Hillary
My family raises calves. We have only 6 calves in the barn right
now but we used to have 30 calves in the barn with many more outside.
All of our calves are holsteins but we used to have 4 Semintals
and one Charolais. We keep the younger calves in individual pens.
We have 20 of the little pens and 3 larger pens that we keep older
calves in. The calves drink milk and a mixture of oats, grain
and sometimes even corn called CCR-1. We also feed our calves
milk from the cows that we own. We only have 4 cows but we used
to have a Dairy where we milked over 40 cows. Our calves sometimes
stick their heads out over their pens. It looks kinda' funny (see
below).
This is a picture of where we get our milk.

The calves we have all have names, my favorites
are Diane, Snip, Bud, Nibbler, and Scoot. I usually feed the calves
but sometimes I'm busy. My favorite of them all is Scoot, he is
very small and lovable. My second favorite is Nibbler, he is white
with black spots. Diane is next, she looks like she has diamonds
on her head and back, she is very cute. Snip has a white snip
on her forehead that looks like someone cut out some of her black
hair and stitched in some white hair. Bud is white with black
splotches, he is very friendly.
This is Scoot, he is my favorite calf
that we own.
My family has Angus cows as well as
Holsteins. Our Angus cows are calving right now and we had one
that we thought might be a twin, (we don't know which calf was
it's twin) or it was pre-mature. I liked to call him Wally Smallmally.
(my family called him Little Guy) Wally was about 2 feet tall
(60 cm). He was very cute, I liked him alot!
In loving memory of littleWally.
