History in the Medstead Community

J. D. Isaak Family

I came to this north country from Gilroy, Saskatchewan with my parents in 1933 as a ten year old boy.
We went to school in Avery for approximately one month then to Hyde Park the winter of 1933-34. On April 12, 1934 my folks settled on the N.E-1-50-14-W3rd one mile south of the Carrollton School. Here I finished public school, took grades 9 and 10 by correspondence and grades 11 and grade 12 in Artichoke, the first high school in this area.
I worked for Alex Alder in the store in Glenbush for a few years. Then on June 11, 1950 married Helen Bartel of Glenbush. Mr. Alder sold the store in Glenbush so we moved to Medstead for the winter of 1950-51. Helen worked in Mill's store while I worked for the I.H.C. owned by J. H. Harrisons.
We purchased a farm east of Cater from Jim Herron and started farming in 1951 and lived there until October of 1956. Since Dad had to leave the farm because of mother's health, they moved to Saskatoon. We then rented his farm for a number of years, later purchasing the same.

Here we raised our four children who all attended Medstead Central School, all of them completing their grade 12 in this school.
Helen and I drove the Carrollton school bus to Medstead for twelve years.
Bruce married Martha Guenther a Registered Psychiatric Nurse of Hepburn, Saskatchewan. He purchased the Joe Seidle farm in 1977 and they are now residing and farming there.
Irene, after completing high school and three years at Bethany Bible School, is now completing her fourth year of nursing in the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.
Clifford married Karen Siemens of Herbert, Saskatchewan. Clifford finished two years at Red River College in Winnipeg. Karen took nursing in Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. They are now living in Meadow Lake where Clifford is working as an accountant and Karen is employed as a nurse.
Emily, after completing high school, is attending Bethany Bible Institute at Hepburn.
